Postmaster FAQ
How to Use Alpine Mail Postmaster Utility
Getting There
Open your browser and go to http://postmaster.alpdev.com
.
Enter in your domain name and postmaster password on the
appropriate fields. Then click on the “Login”
button.
Once you have logged in you will have access to the following
screen.
What is a POP account?
A POP account is a basic mailbox. This will correspond to
a simple address@domain.com and will be the location where mail
addressed to the box is collected.
What is an Alias?
An alias is an additional name for a POP account/mailbox.
It is not a box itself, but merely points to another
mailbox. For example, info@domain.com might be pointed to
fred@domain.com. Fred then picks up email sent to
info@domain.com from his mailbox.
What is a Forward?
A forward is similar to an alias, but may be directed to more
than one mailbox, and may also be sent to another domain.
For example, sales@domain.com might be forwarded to
fred@domain.com and wilma@domain.com.
What is an Autoresponder?
An autoresponder will automatically reply to any incoming email
with the message that you specify, then forward the original
mail to another address or list of addresses.
What is a Mailing
List?
A mailing list is a method for managing distribution lists.
How do I create a Pop Account?
Pop accounts are the name of email address where the email is
checked with an email client such as Outlook Express, Eudora,
etc. If you already have a Forward or Auto-Reply account, you
may not create a Email Account by the same name (i.e., an
account named "John" or "Sales" can have ONLY a EMAIL, OR a
Forward OR a Robot account). To create a EMAIL account:
1. Click on "New Pop Accounts" from the main Main
menu.
2. Enter the name of the Pop Account (enter only a single
word or name, such as John, Sales, Support, etc.)
3. Enter a password
4. Enter the password again
5. Enter a real name (this is a name that displays in the
Email Account menu so that you can identify the mail box. It
can be anything you wish)
6. We do not recommend subscribing the name to a list unless
you are an experienced email administrator
7. Click on the "Add" button
How do I create an Alias Account?
An alias is similar to a forward. Mail addressed to one name is
sent to another. Aliases send mail to local addresses only.
Aliases can also have multiple local recipients. We do not
recommend using Alias Accounts unless you are an experienced
email administrator. To create an Alias Account:
1. Click on "New Aliases" from the main Main menu
2. Select a preexisting EMAIL Account from the pull down
menu
3. Enter the Alias email address
4. Click on the "Add" button
How do I create a Forward Account?
A Forward account sends mail from one address to another
address. If you already have a EMAIL or Robot account, you may
not create a Forward Account by the same name (i.e., an account
named "John" or "Sales" can have ONLY a EMAIL, OR a Forward OR
a Robot account). To create a Forward account:
1. Click on "New Forwards" from the main Main Administrator
menu.
2. Enter the name of the Forward Email Address (i.e., the
address you wish to have the mail forwarded, such as Bob@anydomain.com.)
3. Enter a Local Name (enter only a single word or name, such
as John, Sales, Support, etc.)
4. Click on the "Add" button
